ST. JOHN VALLEY and BANGOR, Maine (October 1, 2021) – For three Maine college freshmen, paying for education just got a little easier. Acadia Federal Credit Union named Victoria Andrews, Caleb Bassett, and Gabrielle Martin as the 2021 recipients of the Acadia FCU Scholarship.

Recipients were selected based on a written essay, grade point average, personal and academic achievements, and financial need.

“As colleges across the state of Maine are starting their academic year, it thrills us to know that we are playing an active role in helping to finance these deserving students with the Acadia FCU scholarship,” said Jill Bouchard Cairns, Acadia FCU’s Chief Relationship Officer.  “We wish these three very deserving students nothing but the best with their first year of college!”

Andrews is a 2021 graduate of Bangor High School and plans to attend the University of Maine at Orono to study nursing.  She is the daughter of Phil and Dawn Andrews.

Bassett is a 2021 graduate of Madawaska High School and plans to attend the University of Maine Orono to study finance. He is the son of Jay Beaulieu and Michelle Bassett.

Martin is a 2021 graduate of Fort Kent Community High School and plans to attend the University of Southern Maine to study health science.  She is the daughter of Taylor and Stacy Martin.

Scholarship earners will each receive $2,000 toward their education, with $1,000 awarded after the first semester of their first year and the second $1,000 installment payable after the second semester of their second year.

The Acadia Federal Credit Union college scholarship is available to current Maine high school seniors who meet all of the following criteria: (1) Attend an Aroostook, Piscataquis, or Penobscot County high school; (2) Plan to enroll in a two-year or four-year college or university; and (3) Are an active Acadia FCU member or whose parent(s)/guardian(s) is/are active member(s).

Class of 2022 students who meet eligibility requirements are welcome to apply for the Acadia FCU scholarship. The scholarship application will be available at acadiafcu.org beginning February 1, 2022.
