ST. JOHN VALLEY, ASHLAND, and BANGOR, Maine (May 14, 2024) – Acadia Federal Credit Union, a member-owned financial institution with branches throughout northern Aroostook County and Bangor, proudly announces that the institution raised $52,038.73 in 2023 to support Maine hunger relief efforts in 2024.

Various Acadia team members visited food pantries and hunger organizations in their respective communities to hand-deliver donation checks.

“At Acadia FCU, we recognize the importance of giving back and supporting our neighbors in need,” said Alison Smart, Acadia FCU marketing manager and Ending Hunger Campaign coordinator. “We are incredibly proud of the hard work demonstrated by our team and grateful for the generosity of our members and community partners. Their support was paramount in leading us to raise over $52,000 to combat hunger in Maine. This accomplishment reflects Acadia’s unwavering commitment to our mission of enriching the lives of others.”

Throughout the months of April and May of 2024, Acadia FCU teammates personally distributed funds to the following agencies in the St. John Valley, Ashland, and the greater Bangor area: Aroostook Area Agency on Aging Meals on Wheels program, First Assembly of God Food Pantry, St. John Vianney Parish Food Pantry, Ashland Food Pantry, Greater Fort Kent Ecumenical Food Pantry, Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Food Pantry, Our Lady of the Valley Food Pantry, MSAD 33 Take Home Program, Fish River Rural Health Food Shelf, St. Peter Chanel Food Pantry, Safe Place Food Cupboard, Bangor Area Homeless Shelter, Brewer Area Food Pantry, The Salvation Army of Bangor, and Manna Ministries Food Pantry.

In February of this year, Acadia FCU representatives attended the Ending Hunger Results Luncheon, hosted by the Maine Credit Union League and Synergent at Hilton Garden Inn Freeport Downtown. At this event, they learned that Maine credit unions collectively raised an incredible $1,221,868.94 in 2023 to help end hunger in Maine. Acadia FCU placed third in the state for total funds raised.

This achievement underscores Acadia FCU’s dedication to fulfilling their mission of improving lives through compassionate service and meaningful action. By harnessing the collective power of their team, members, and community supporters, Acadia FCU continues to make strides in addressing the challenges faced by Maine residents experiencing food insecurity.
